Financial Support for Students

The Social Services of P.PORTO (SAS P.PORTO) provide financial and social support services to promote equal access to higher education and support students throughout their academic journey.

Students may have access to different types of financial assistance, depending on eligibility criteria and applicable regulations.

Insurance

All registered students at P.PORTO are covered by the mandatory School Insurance (Seguro Escolar), which provides protection in case of accidents related to academic activities.

The School Insurance is separate from regular healthcare coverage. Depending on nationality, residence status, and length of stay, international students may also need additional healthcare insurance or proof of healthcare coverage.

School Insurance (Seguro Escolar)

The School Insurance covers personal accidents occurring in connection with official academic activities, including:

  • Classes and laboratory activities;
  • Academic visits, field trips, and study-related activities;

  • The direct route between the student’s residence and the campus, under the applicable conditions.

Activation and Fee

The School Insurance becomes active after completing the enrolment/registration process and paying the applicable insurance fee.

Students should note that the School Insurance does not replace healthcare insurance and does not generally cover:

  • Regular medical appointments;
  • Illnesses or chronic health conditions;
  • Non-academic medical situations.

Healthcare Coverage Requirements for International Students

Before arriving in Portugal, international and exchange students should ensure they have valid healthcare coverage for the entire period of their stay.

EU / EEA / Swiss Students

Students from the European Union, European Economic Area, or Switzerland should bring a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).

The EHIC allows access to healthcare services within the Portuguese public healthcare system (SNS), according to the applicable rules.

Non-EU / International Students

Students from countries with healthcare agreements with Portugal should obtain the required healthcare documentation before arrival, when applicable.

Students from countries without such agreements may be required to have private international health insurance covering:

In Case of Accident

The accident report must be submitted according to the required procedures so that the School Insurance process can be activated.
