Description

The aim of this course is for students to understand mobility as a social and individual phenomenon, learn how to develop soft (non-infrastructure) policies and measures, and integrate vulnerable and handicapped people into modern transportation systems.

Contents

Part 1: Development policies and transport – national and European policies; environmental and spatial policies; social, demographic and economic policies; globalisation; transport policies; action programmes (concepts, development, implementation, evaluation); case studies.

Part 2: Sustainable (Urban) Transport Plans – concepts, case studies.

Part 3: Travel behaviour and Mobility Management – mobility management definition, approaches, goals; travel awareness concept; evaluation criteria (environment, time, security, macro/micro transport account); travel behaviour and patterns; soft measures; methods for encouraging behaviour change; travel awareness campaigns; soft mobility policy concepts and best practices.

Part 4: Mobility planning for vulnerable and handicapped – special needs for vulnerable travellers and handicapped persons; case studies.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and understanding:

  • Analyse and evaluate the state of mobility at a given location
  • Assess compliance of the situation with sustainable development goals
  • Synthesise knowledge from environment, space, economy, transport, and society to prepare sustainable mobility plans

Transferable/key skills:

  • Prepare Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP) following EU methodology
  • Conduct soft mobility policies
