The University of Maribor is the second-largest and second-oldest university in Slovenia. Languages
The minimum required level is B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
We accept the following forms of certification:
- A certificate issued by your home institution, clearly stating your level of English. It must be signed and stamped by an English language teacher or another responsible academic staff member.
- Any official English language certificate (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, etc.), except the OLS test.
Please note: Printed results from the Online Linguistic Support (OLS) test are not accepted as valid proof of English proficiency.
The University of Maribor reserves the right to assess your English language skills. If your proficiency is found to be insufficient and prevents you from successfully participating in the study process, your Erasmus exchange may be terminated.

Mobility
The University of Maribor actively promotes student mobility and welcomes incoming Erasmus+ students from partner institutions across Europe and beyond. Incoming students can choose courses from the full catalogue available at the Erasmus+ portal.
UM offers a comprehensive Welcome Programme including orientation events, language courses, cultural activities, and a Buddy Programme. Incoming students benefit from subsidised meals, student health care, and access to sports facilities.

The University of Maribor strongly encourages its students to participate in international mobility programmes. Outgoing students can apply for Erasmus+ study and traineeship exchanges at over 400 partner institutions in more than 40 countries.
Support for outgoing students includes: pre-departure orientation, assistance with Learning Agreement preparation, grant processing, and recognition of credits upon return. Students should contact their faculty Erasmus coordinator for programme-specific information.

Recognition process for outgoing students
Credits earned abroad through Erasmus+ or other mobility programmes are recognised at the University of Maribor on the basis of a Learning Agreement approved before departure. Upon return, students must submit the official Transcript of Records from the host institution to their faculty coordinator.
The faculty study committee processes the recognition request and incorporates approved credits into the student's study plan. The recognition decision is issued within 4 weeks. For assistance: incoming.erasmus@um.si

Admission description for full-degree students
The University of Maribor accepts full-degree students who meet the standard admission requirements for the relevant study programme. International students must demonstrate the required academic qualifications and language proficiency. All study programmes are listed in the course catalogue on the University of Maribor website.

Registration procedures for full-degree students
Full-degree students should apply through the national Higher Education Application and Information Service (eVŠ). The application process includes:
- Online application via the eVŠ system
- Submission of required documents (diploma, transcript, proof of language proficiency)
- Recognition of foreign education if applicable
- Enrolment at the relevant faculty

Arrangements for the recognition of credit and prior learning
The University of Maribor follows the Lisbon Recognition Convention and uses ECTS for credit allocation and transfer. Credits earned at partner institutions are recognised on the basis of a Learning Agreement signed before the mobility period.
Upon return, the student submits a Transcript of Records from the host institution. The relevant faculty recognises the credits and incorporates them into the student's study plan. The recognition decision is typically issued within 4 weeks of receiving the official transcript.
Admission description for exchange students
The University of Maribor welcomes Erasmus+ and other exchange students from partner institutions worldwide. Exchange students can enrol in courses from the University's course catalogue, subject to availability and language requirements (minimum B1 English level according to CEFR).
UM has over 28 years of Erasmus+ experience, has hosted more than 5,000 Erasmus students, and maintains active partnerships with universities in over 16 European countries.
Registration procedures for exchange students
Exchange students must follow these steps to apply:
- Obtain nomination from your home university (sent by your Erasmus coordinator to UM)
- Create an individual international student account at UM
- Complete the Application Form and Learning Agreement
- Obtain signatures from your Erasmus academic coordinator and university stamp
- Request an English Transcript of Records from your home university
- Provide proof of English language skills (B1 minimum)
- Complete the form for establishing unique personal number (EMŠO)
- Arrange final formalities and prepare for arrival

Academic requirements for nominations
Students must be nominated by their home institution's Erasmus coordinator. The minimum academic requirement is successful completion of at least one year of higher education studies. Students must have a minimum B1 level of English according to CEFR, certified by their home institution or an official language certificate (TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, etc.).
Additional requirements
In addition to academic requirements, exchange students should:
- Arrange travel and health insurance valid in Slovenia
- Obtain a residence permit if staying longer than 90 days (mandatory)
- Register at the Administrative Unit (Upravna enota) within 3 days of arrival
- Arrange accommodation in advance (student dormitories or private)

Admission description for visiting students
Visiting students (non-degree, non-Erasmus) may attend courses at the University of Maribor subject to available capacity and approval by the relevant faculty. Visiting students must have a formal agreement between their home institution and the University of Maribor.
Registration procedures for visiting students
Visiting students should contact the International Relations Office to initiate the registration process. Required documents typically include: letter of motivation, academic transcript, proof of language proficiency, and a formal letter from the home institution. Final registration is completed at the relevant faculty.

Policies
ECTS Allocation Policy
The University of Maribor uses the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) for all study programmes at all levels (undergraduate, master's and doctoral). One academic year corresponds to 60 ECTS credits. Each ECTS credit represents approximately 25–30 hours of student workload.
Credits are allocated based on the learning outcomes and the total workload required to achieve them, including lectures, seminars, practicals, independent work, and examinations.
Arrangements for Academic Guidance
Each faculty at the University of Maribor has a designated Erasmus coordinator who provides academic guidance to incoming exchange students. Students can also access support through:
- The International Relations Office (Erasmus+ team) for administrative matters
- Faculty student services for enrolment and course-related issues
- The Buddy Programme, connecting incoming students with local student volunteers
- The Student Dormitory services for accommodation support
