Department of Accounting and Finance
Presentation
The Department of Accounting and Finance of the University of Thessaly was established in the academic year 2018/19.
Main Objective
The main purpose of the Department is to promote knowledge and research in the areas of Accounting and Finance.
Competencies
Students of the Department acquire specialized knowledge of Greek and international accounting standards and the operation of money and capital markets.
The courses of the Department's Curriculum are divided into compulsory and optional courses.
The first two years of the curriculum include 5 compulsory accounting and finance courses per semester.
The last two years of the program include a mix of 3 compulsory courses and 2 elective courses per semester.
Compulsory courses include subjects such as: accounting and finance background, law, economics, statistics and econometrics, business organization and management, financial mathematics, information systems, etc., and provide the theoretical and practical basis for a better understanding of business environment.
Optional courses link theory to practice and offer the opportunity to delve deeper into specialized disciplines in accounting and finance.
Successful completion of the degree in Accounting and Finance requires a total of 40 courses, of which 32 are compulsory and 8 are elective.
Qualification
Graduates of the Department of Accounting and Finance may be employed in financial services, public and private accounting firms, audit firms, banks, brokerage, investment and insurance companies.
Graduates of the Department will also be able to perform high quality financial studies and use complex financial tools.
The scientific competence provided by the Department will allow graduates to pursue postgraduate and doctoral programs at home and abroad and to further engage in scientific research.
