The Department of Physics of the University of Thessaly was established by article 22 of Law 4589/2019, based in Lamia, and the first students were admitted in the academic year 2019-2020.
The purpose of the Department is, on the one hand, to provide quality theoretical and practical education to its male and female students in various cutting-edge fields of Physics and, on the other hand, to produce original high-level research.
The subjects it treats cover a wide range of the Science of Physics with four main directions: Theoretical Physics & Astrophysics b) Nuclear Physics, Elementary Particle Physics & Plasma Physics, Condensed Matter Physics and Applied Physics-Electronics.
The above fields are cutting-edge fields and in combination with appropriate postgraduate studies can provide employment opportunities in fields such as: Astrophysics, Nuclear Physics, Elementary Particle Physics, Plasma Physics, Space Physics, Telecommunications, Simulations of physical systems, Computer Science, Quantum Computers, Lasers, Materials Science, etc.
In the last semesters of studies, a large number of courses are offered, corresponding to the classical and modern scientific areas of physics, but also with a view to continuing their studies at postgraduate level following a specific specialization.
In addition, students who wish have the opportunity to acquire Pedagogical and Teaching Competence through an appropriate course and Practical training.
