Learning Outcomes

The course aims at delving into the implementation of modern digital systems on silicon integrated circuits, covering issues about physical design, clock synchronization, and memory and datapath circuits.

With the successful completion of the course, the student will be in a position to:

  • Know the logic families that are used for the circuit implementation of digital systems, and be able to select the most appropriate for specific subsystems and applications.
  • Know the details of the physical implementation of digital systems on silicon integrated circuits, and be familiar with the use of specialized CAD tools for physical design.
  • Design the timing system (sequential elements and clock synchronization) of a digital integrated circuit.
  • Know and analyze the various implementations of arithmetic and datapath circuits in digital integrated circuits.
  • Know and analyze the various implementations of memory and data storage circuits in digital integrated circuits.
