Presentation
Graduates in Electrical Engineering are bound to work in the management of electric power systems, electric facilities and drives, and in the transport and distribution of electric power, which are areas that require graduates with specific training in this field. Such graduates must also fill positions in emerging sectors that have a growing impact on present-day society, such as electric traction and renewable energies, particularly the generation of electric power through wind and photovoltaic systems. These are areas that have expanded significantly in our country in recent years and that offer promising future perspectives.
Nowadays, the electricity sector requires a large number of graduates, which allows students with this degree to find work in the electricity sector within a year from graduation, and leads students from other specialties to end up working in this sector, too.
Main Objective
In the technological context in which human activity develops, it is necessary to have, in many of the productive areas, the presence of qualified professionals in the field of Electrical Engineering. The developed world demands large amounts of energy to meet both the needs of production systems, and those inherent to our lifestyle. This demand requires the existence of professionals capable of dealing with the generation, transport, distribution and use of the most widely used form of energy: electrical energy.
The degree in Electrical Engineering aims to train those professionals necessary for the development and sustainability of our society. The studies provide the student with a technical specialization in the field of generation, transport, distribution and use of electrical energy.
The design of the curriculum has placed special emphasis on practice, with a high content of teaching work in specialized laboratories and workshops. These sessions will help students to acquire professional competencies and will encourage them to develop skills and abilities that are highly valued in the working world.
Competencies
This course awards the qualification of professional engineer at Bachelor level (Industrial Technical Engineer)
The abilities that the students must acquire and that are necessary to obtain the degree were defined according to those established in the Order CIN/351/2009, February 9th, which sets the requirements to verify the official university degrees that award the qualification of professional engineer at bachelor level (Industrial Technical Engineer).
The professional profile of the current engineer is dynamic and will have to develop very diverse activities throughout the professional life. For this reason it is convenient to ensure a good basic and transversal training, in addition to those other specific competences that will provide the student the profile of the course.
Competences can be consulted in this section: Competences in Electrical Engineering Degree.
