The Bachelor’s Degree in Translation and Interpreting is the only undergraduate translation and interpreting degree in the Galician university system and in northwest Spain where translation and interpreting from and into Galician is included, reflecting the language’s co‑official status.
Students choose a linguistic combination in which to specialise, such as:
- English–Spanish
- French–Spanish
- English–Galician
In addition to their chosen combination, students study a second foreign language (e.g., English, French, German, or Portuguese) to strengthen their multilingual competence.
The curriculum blends linguistic analysis, translation techniques, interpreting practice, and cultural mediation, while also incorporating professional methodologies so that graduates understand key socioprofessional standards and workflows within the translation and interpreting sectors.
The strategic geographical location of Galicia, which has historically promoted the cultural exchanges with Portugal, makes this degree very attractive for the students from the north of our neighbouring country. This possibility is also favoured by the offer of subjects on translation and interpreting in which one of the linguistic combinations is Portuguese.
Ultimately, it is a multipurpose educative degree prepared for a market which demands more and more flexibility and adaptability.
Main Objective
The primary goal of this degree is to train students as professional translators and interpreters who can identify, apply, and adapt the tools and strategies needed for high‑quality cultural and linguistic mediation. Training emphasises the theory and practice of translation and interpreting, preparing graduates both for immediate professional work and for potential future specialisation.
The second basic objective is the acquisition of professional working methodologies, so that the graduated students can identify and classify the mediation modalities, using the adequate strategies and working methodologies for each case, adapting to the task and knowing the key socioprofessional features for the development of the translators and interpreter tasks.
