Presentation

The Informatics and Data Technologies programme is offered by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (FERI) at the University of Maribor. FERI is an internationally recognised faculty providing students with knowledge based on internationally recognised scientific research, making graduates highly desirable among employers in Slovenia and abroad. The programme equips students with expertise in computer science, data analytics, artificial intelligence, software engineering, and information systems.

Main Objective

The main objective of the programme is to prepare graduates for professional and research roles in informatics, data science, and related ICT fields. Students gain both theoretical foundations and practical skills in data management, software development, network systems, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies such as AI and machine learning.

Competencies

  • Design, implement, and manage complex information systems and databases
  • Apply data science and machine learning methods to real-world problems
  • Develop software applications using modern programming paradigms
  • Ensure information security and manage cybersecurity risks
  • Integrate digital and data technologies in organisations
  • Communicate technical solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Learning Outcomes

Graduates will be able to independently design and implement information systems, analyse and interpret large datasets, develop software solutions, and manage ICT infrastructure. They will possess both technical depth and the ability to work in interdisciplinary teams on complex technology projects.

Qualification

Graduates receive the academic title Bachelor of Science in Informatics and Data Technologies. The programme is offered at both professional (VS) and university (UN) levels, as well as at master's (MAG) level. FERI also offers doctoral programmes in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

Structure and Distribution of Credits

The 1st-cycle university programme lasts 3 years and comprises 180 ECTS credits. Courses cover programming, algorithms, databases, networks, operating systems, data science, artificial intelligence, information security, and software engineering. A final thesis or project completes the programme.
